Please contact caawsmail@yahoo.com and put "Spay Day" in the subject line or call 225-752-5801 for more information.

5 Free Female Dog Spays each month

The first 5 qualifying applicants for the specific month will get the spays.  You MUST fill out an application for the spay. Filling out an application does not guarantee you a free spay. *  Spay Day is offered by the LSU Vet School.  Cat Haven is running the 2008 program, with CAAWS and Spay Baton Rouge participating.  The $25/cat fee includes the spay/neuter, ear tip (if needed,) and vaccinations.  In addition to feral and stray cats, this program is offered to low income families as well as families who adopt stray cats/kittens.  Anyone unable to pay the $25/cat for feral colonies can receive assistance from the CAAWS Feral TNR Program, although, donations of any amount are greatly appreciated.

Spay Day occurs once a month, usually the 2nd Sunday of each month, except in cases of holidays or LSU events.  The spay/neuter slots are available by appointment only--no walk-ins, and apply to cats only.  The cats are brought to the LSU Small Animal Clinic between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. on Spay Day, and must be picked up around 4:00 p.m. that same day.  Pre and post op instructions are provided.  If traps are needed for strays/ferals, CAAWS provides traps for free use (with a security deposit.)

Note that kittens must be at least 10 weeks of age.  We cannot spay nursing moms unless kittens are eating food in addition to nursing.

CAAWS organizes or participates in several special events throughout the year. Most of them are fundraising activities.
