These dogs and puppies are available for adoption at the CAAWS building from 11:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday.  Several of these dogs can be seen at Petsmart during the same time, so if you are interested in somebody below, email to find out if they will be at the building or Petsmart. Our animals can also be seen at http://www.petfinder.com/
Potential Adopters
If interested in a particular animal, please email caawsmail@yahoo.com with your questions. Due to the large volume of calls that CAAWS receives on a daily basis and limited volunteer hours available, it is nearly impossible to return all calls. Email is the easiest and quickest way to reach us. The majority of our volunteers work or attend school full time and are unable to return calls during their work day, leaving very few evening hours available for all call returns. Thank you for your consideration.

Pippin

Pippin has a Best Buddy, Michele M.

Our thanks to all of you helping foster CAAWS pets while they await adoption.

We are the "Fantastic Five"!

Kali, Pippin, Tully, Napoleon and Mouse (adopted). We were saved from certain death. We were all living underneath an abandoned trailer infested with fleas, losing hair from malnutrition and getting to the age that our mother was trying to wean us, but we were to little to go in search and find our own food.

Well, the fleas are gone, the hair is growing back nicely and food, well it always seems to be there when we want it now.

We are all Chihuahua/Terrier mixes born approximately 7/1/08. We are up to date on shots, have all been spayed and neutered and are current on heartworm prevention. We would do best in a home without small children, but would love to go to a home with loving, caring adults.

Come on down to the shelter and see us, but look carefully since we are the smallest ones there, we’re easy to miss.

Elmo

Since the name "Fantastic Five" was already taken, I guess we'll be the "Five Musketeers". You know, "One for all and all for one".

Yes, we do realize that there were originally only three musketeers, but it's 2008 now and there are "Five".

We all came from an over crowded, caged, unsocialized living situation and hope that the end of 2008 and 2009 prove to be much better. Since we have entered the CAAWS program, the food supply has been great, we don't have to fight to get our share. Also, the sleeping quarters aren't cramped at all, and the humans here all seem to want to hold, cuddle and kiss us, which we have never gotten. We think we've died and gone to Chihuahua heaven.

I'm Elmo, and speaking of fighting for food, that is what happened to my eye. I thought I deserved that little morsel that was thrown into my cramped cage, and another Chi thought the same thing. Don't worry though my other eye works just fine.

I was born approximately 6/03, am up to date on shots, neutered and tested positive for heartworms. This didn't surprise me at all since I knew I was never given that prevention that pups are supposed to get on a monthly basis. Anyway, if you want to adopt me now and I can go through treatment at my new forever home, CAAWS is throwing in a extra Christmas present and paying for my treatment. As if I wasn't present enough.

Maxine

Maxine would like to thank Brenda for being her best buddy.

To find out more about CAAWS best buddy program and how you can become a best buddy visit www.caaws.org and click on best buddy program on the right hand side.

CAAWS would like to tell you a little about Maxine. She is too shy to talk right now, so we will be her voice. Maxine was found running on the side of the road hungry, scared and it was very obvious that the human race had failed her (on every occasion).

When you are on your own every day and night, when it's hot or cold, sunny or rainy, and the only human contact available is one more mean person scatting you away or throwing things at you, you begin to not trust those with two legs. But CAAWS is going to show this young lady that despite everything she has learned from humans in the past, humans can be humane.

She is making great strides in her foster home and is trusting humans once again. She gets along with other dogs, but thinks that cats would make great chew toys, so she needs a house with no cats. Quick movements still scare her so she needs a home with NO children.

She is up to date on shots, spayed and has completed heartworm treatment (4/17/06). Maxine is a female Shepherd mix who was born approximately 3/04.

Are you the right person for Maxine? Can you be what she needs and deserves? Are you patient and understanding, loving and caring? When she sees that she is able to live without being hurt, some lucky family will be smothered with unconditional love.

Zoe

Has been adopted!

My last owners were moving out of state and could not take me with them. Imagine that, not being able to fit an 11 lb. female shih-tzu in a suitcase or carrier in cargo on the plane.

Oh well, no sense in dwelling on the past. At least they had the decency to hook me up with CAAWS before flying away with everything they own but me. My name is Zoé and I was born approximately 12/06.

I am up to date on shots, spayed and tested negative for heartworms. I’m almost potty trained (if you do your part), easy to get along with, love to talk to my humans and am somewhat on the independent side. I get along with other pupsters my size, but am afraid of small children. If you don’t plan on moving anytime soon (at least not to a place I can’t join you), fill out an application and let’s see if we were meant for each other.

Laverne

The name’s Laverne, and I’m a female Terrier/Lab mix born approximately 1/07.

I am up to date on shots, spayed and heartworm negative.

Here’s the scoop on me. Late one night, my previous people dumped my sister, Shirley, and I on the road because they decided they didn’t love us anymore. I don’t get it. What’s not to love.

We get along great with other dogs (especially with each other - in case you’re looking for two), cats and adults. We are very shy at first, so a home without small children would be best for us. Anyway, since getting out of the car wasn’t an option, here we are – cute, sweet, loving and available.

Everyone tells us we will not be that way for long (the available part of course) and I sure hope they are right.

Yancy

Have you taken a fancy to Yancy. Well, who hasn't.

Yancy is a male poodle who was born approximately 8/06. He is up to date on shots, neutered and tested positive for heartworms. But if you positively cannot go on without this boy in your life and would like to put him through treatment, CAAWS will pick up the tab. Otherwise, he's on the list to be treated as soon as a foster home becomes available.

Yancy came from the same quarters as the other poodles on our site so is used to living with pups his size. He's never quite experienced young children, so for his and their safety, an all adult home is necessary.

This young man wants nothing more than a warm bed, loving owner and food without wheat gluten. Too much to ask, I think not.

Holly

Holly has been adopted!

Now coming down the runway sporting her summer cut, is Holly, a female poodle born approximately 2/07.

She is up to date on shots, spayed and tested negative for heartworms. With these long, gorgeous legs, Holly is constantly mistaken for a runway model. She is a sweet young lady looking for that special home (with or without dogs her size) where she can be the princess she deserves, but has never gotten the chance to be.

Previously, Holly was living in overcrowded quarters, so she never got the attention or appreciation this model should get.

If you have a calm home where Holly can blossom without young children, please don't hesitate to come fill out an application for her. Her next photo shoot could be right inside your home.

Joy

Joy is such a joy to be around. Corny, huh? Would be if it weren't the truth.

This little gal is such a doll baby.

She is a female Poodle born approximately 2/06. She is up to date on shots, spayed and heartworm negative. She and the other poodles on the site came from the same location, so if Poodles are your breed, and one just isn't enough, Joy would be overjoyed to be adopted with one of the others.

She gets along with other dogs.  She would like an adult home that is not too active, a human to cuddle up next to at night, and the promise that she'll never have to move again. Those promises are nothing compared to the loyalty and love you'll get in return.

Gizmo

Since the name "Fantastic Five" was already taken, I guess we'll be the "Five Musketeers". You know, "One for all and all for one". Yes, we do realize that there were originally only three musketeers, but it's 2008 now and there are "Five".

Also, the sleeping quarters aren't cramped at all, and the humans here all seem to want to hold, cuddle and kiss us, which we have never gotten. We think we've died and gone to Chihuahua heaven.

I'm Gizmo, the Ewok looking one of the group. I was born approximately 6/03, am up to date on shots, neutered and tested positive for heartworms. This didn't surprise me at all since I knew I was never given that prevention that pups are supposed to get on a monthly basis. Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How big will the puppy be when it grows up?
A: A puppy generally reaches half its ideal adult weight at 4 months of age. Based on our experience, the CAAWS Counselors will have an educated guess on the final size of most puppies up for adoption. Most puppies we see end up weighing 35 to 55 pounds.

Q: Should my dog stay outside?
A: We recommend that a dog be housed inside if at all possible. A dog wishes to be maintained as part of the family unit, therefore it enjoys sleeping in the house. A dog does require at least 1-2 hours of play time outside each day.

Q: How should I potty train my dog?
A: We recommend crate training.

Q: Will I know if the dog I adopt has heartworms?
A: We will disclose all medical information we have on the adopted dog that we have. We will also provide general information on the treatment of heartworms if the dog you wish to adopt is heartworm positive.

Q: Why does my dog dig?
A: Chances are your dog is bored. Give your dog plenty of supervised play time to work off his energy without getting into trouble. If the dog can not be supervised, we recommend crate training the dog.

Q: How important is breed?
A: Most all dog breeds are good family pets that love children. Mixed breeds, such as most of our adoptees, have no in-bred characteristics, but display their nature readily. If you are looking for a pure bred dog, you should learn the behavioral traits of the breed.
