These dogs and puppies are available for adoption at
the CAAWS building from 11:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday.
Several of these dogs can be seen at PetSmart during
the same time, so if you are interested in somebody
below, email to find out if they will be at the building
or PetSmart.

| Potential Adopters |
| If interested
in a particular animal, please email
caawsmail@yahoo.com
with your questions. Due to the large volume of calls that
CAAWS receives on a daily basis and limited volunteer hours
available, it is nearly impossible to return all calls.
Email is the easiest and quickest way to reach us. The majority
of our volunteers work or attend school full time and are
unable to return calls during their work day, leaving very
few evening hours available for all call returns. Thank
you for your consideration. |

Linus
My
brother, Yogi, and I should be the poster children for a
spay/neuter campaign. See, if our mom would have been
spayed, we wouldn't be homeless.
Yes, CAAWS will find us a good home, but for every
one us that is saved, several more lose their lives all
because of the amount of un-spayed and unneutered pets
in the world.
CAAWS has had us neutered, brought us up to date on
shots and tested us for heartworms. Which, by the way,
we are negative.
We are male Schipperke/Papillion mixes and it was
estimated that we were born approximately 7/08.
Even
if you don't want to adopt my brother or I (which we
would really love to go together), please spay and
neuter your current pets. This is a non-paid
advertisement from Linus and Yogi, spay/neuter
advocates. |

Ace
Ace, yep, that's me, the, highest card possible in the
deck. Unless of course you are playing Go Fish. But who
likes to fish? Oh yeah, labs love the water, and I am no
exception. I'm trying out for the swim team this coming
summer.
I am a male lab born approximately 10/06. I am up to
date on shots, have been neutered, tested negative for heartworms
and weigh approximately 65 lbs. My foster mom says that
I am a cuddly fellow. But, don't let my cuteness be mistaken
for being a pushover. I seem to be a bit of an alpha male,
so if you have other fur-babies, they will need to be submissive.
Also,
I'm a bit stingy with my food and treats, so I might not
do well in a home with small children in case they try to
put their hands in my food. Guess this comes from not having
a supply of kibble when I was on my own and now that it
is provided on a daily basis, I'm very protective of it.
Speaking of when I was on my own, I seem to have been
target practice for someone, because when foster mom found
me I had been shot in my hip. I am okay now, but because
of this senseless act of cruelty, I walk with a limp in
my step (I call it my "strut"). Do not worry, I can still
keep time with anyone.

Cane
See my video on YouTube

Now
Cane, a male Husky mix will perform a
disappearing/reappearing act.
Watch closely and I will disappear right before
your eyes. Allakhazam!
I know your amazed, but this is just one of my many
talents that I possess.
There are three steps to this trick, the 1st was me
vanishing before your eyes. My part is done. The 2nd is
for you to fill out an application on me and be
spectacular enough to adopt me. Now for part 3, you will
return home and I will appear at your house which is
where I’m assuming will be my new forever home.
Thanks to everyone who made this magic act a success, I
couldn’t have done it without you all.
I was born approximately 10/05. I am up to date on
shots, neutered and have completed heartworm treatment
as of January 2008.
Somewhat true to Cane’s profile, he is somewhat of a
magician/escape artist. He will need at least a 6 foot
fence to keep his curious nature at home.
He is a very good natured guy that loves attention and
to be petted and loved on. He gets along well with other
dogs and people. Come by the shelter and see if Cane can
work his magic and make you fall in love with him like
the CAAWS volunteers have.
To learn more about me, send me
an email to caawsmail@yahoo.com

Rhyden
Can someone please give me
the address to the pound for humans.
See, I had to give my last humans
away because I developed an allergy to them. The ones
before that, I was moving and couldn't take them with
me. Prior to that, I had a puppy and didn't have the
time for the humans anymore.
Nevertheless, I'm in the market
again and would like to adopt rather than purchase from
a human breeder.
Hi, I'm Rhyden, a Bichon
Frise/Poodle mix born approximately 12/04. I am up to
date on shots, neutered and heartworm negative. I weigh
approximately 12 lbs. and am a sweetheart.

I'm shy at times, so small
children and I probably won't be a good match. I do like
playing with other pups but could just as easily be
pampered and spoiled as the only pet. Either way is fine
with me, just as long as I get a home and a family to
love me. Love Rhyden!

Denver
My name is Denver and I am a male Pit mix born approximately
January of 2005. I have been from pillar to post in the
last year. I was a victim of Hurricane Katrina but was rescued
and brought to Lamar Dixon.
A lady with the Coast Guard planned to adopt me and take
me home with her to "Denver" Colorado when she returned
(which I was very excited about). When she learned of the
pit bill ban/euthanasia rule that is in effect in Colorado,
she tried to explain this to me and we were both VERY upset.
I am up to date on shots and neutered. I am heartworm
positive, but for whatever lucky soul gets me, my heartworm
treatment will be paid for. After what I've been through
and being bounced around so much, I'm sure you can understand
that I am a little shy when first meeting someone, but I
come around quickly to a kind voice and loving hands.
I
am unsure of cats, but I am housetrained, great on a leash
and love other dogs (large and small). Please look past
my initial frightened, withdrawn demeanor, and know that
with a little love and patience, I will trust you and can
prove to be the most loyal, loving friend you've ever imagined.

Maxine
Maxine would like to thank Brenda for being her best buddy.
To find out more about CAAWS best buddy program and how
you can become a best buddy visit
www.caaws.org and click on best buddy program on the right hand
side.
CAAWS would like to tell you a little about Maxine. She
is too shy to talk right now, so we will be her voice. Maxine was found
running on the side of the road hungry, scared and it was very obvious
that the human race had failed her (on every occasion).
When you are on your own every day and night, when it's
hot or cold, sunny or rainy, and the only human contact available is one
more mean person scatting you away or throwing things at you, you begin
to not trust those with two legs. But CAAWS is going to show this young
lady that despite everything she has learned from humans in the past,
humans can be humane.

She is making great strides in her foster home and is
trusting humans once again. She gets along with other dogs, but thinks
that cats would make great chew toys, so she needs a house with no cats.
Quick movements still scare her so she needs a home with NO children.
She is up to date on shots, spayed and has completed
heartworm treatment (4/17/06). Maxine is a female Shepherd mix who was
born approximately 3/04.
Are you the right person for Maxine? Can you be what she
needs and deserves? Are you patient and understanding, loving and
caring? When she sees that she is able to live without being hurt, some
lucky family will be smothered with unconditional love. |
Josie
My
name is Josie and I am a female Boxer. I was born
10/05. I am a really gentle girl who just wants a home
where I am safe and fed and loved. Is that too much to
ask for?
I was found on side of the road so weak
from starvation that I could no longer stand. I am now
on the road to recovery. I have gained several pounds,
I have been spayed , and am up to date on shots. Due to
my previous condition I am heartworm positive; however,
if you'd like to adopt me now CAAWS will pay for my
heartworm treatment.
I will do fine with children as there is
a child in my foster home and I get along great with
him. I need a home where I am the only pet, due to my
previous years of abuse I don't always do well with
other animals. I just want to be the queen of my
household. I deserve it at this point.
I
enjoy my walks and getting petted. My cute vet said
that I was probably used as a puppy making factory and
then dumped when I was no longer meeting their needs. I
am mostly housebroken. I don’t bark much, only when I
need to alert you that someone is at my door. So talk
to me, see me wagging my nub? I like you, you can tell
by my happy face which I wear all the time. Do you like
me enough to fall in love with me and take me home?
Foster mom says I am the best dog she
ever has had. WOW! That says a lot about me!!! |

Keelan
Studies show that owning a pet can dramatically reduce
stress levels, lower blood pressure and ward off depression.
So the way I look at it, you can make numerous visits
to several different types of doctors trying to figure out
if you are stressed and need Valium, have high blood pressure
and need a Beta-blocker or are depressed and need an anti-depressant.
OR, you can pay $95.00 for me. Which will it be?
I myself am a little stressed and wish I had money to
purchase a pet. My previous mom had to give me up because
she was having financial problems of her own and thought
it best to find me a another home with someone who could
love me.
I am a male Chihuahua born approximately 8/01. Since
entering CAAWS, I have been brought up to date on shots,
been neutered and tested negative for heartworms. I am still
a tad shaken up from losing my previous home and get scared
kind of easily so a home without children would be best
for me. I get along well with cats and other dogs (I tend
to pretty much ignore them), since what I really love is
hanging out with people.

Lilly
Thanks to Lynda E. for being Lilly's Best Buddy!
Watch my video on YouTube. Click here
I am Lilly, a beagle/Australian cattle dog, mix, born
approximately July of 2001.
I have been spayed, am up to date on shots and am heartworm
negative. I get along well with other dogs.

I would do best in a home without small children.
I love to go for rides in the car and I walk well on a leash.
I am approximately 35 lbs. I am at my ideal weight.
My previous owners moved and could not keep me so I am now
looking for a new home. One that wants to receive
love as well as give it.

I am a very sweet girl who will make some family very
lucky.

Spooky
My
name is Spooky and it isn’t because of the way my
crystal clear blue eyes look. Actually, they are my
best feature, other than my personality.
I am a male Golden Retriever mix born
approximately 4/06. I am up to date on shots, neutered
and tested positive for heartworms. Putting me through
treatment should be a breeze since I’m such a laid back
guy and CAAWS will pay for it.
I’m
good with kids, other dogs and although we don’t know
for certain, probably would be alright with cats. I am
great with humans and will make a very loyal family
member and friend should you choose to adopt me.

Mississippi
Yes,
I was named Mississippi because I was found stuck on a
landing on the Mississippi River and my rescuer had to
even tie himself off to reach where I was so he would
then be able to pull us both back up. Boy, I don’t
remember how I ended up in that area, all I know is that
I sure am glad he came along.
I am a male Shih-Tzu born approximately
4/08. I have been neutered, and up to date on shots and
tested negative for heartworms. Personally I think the
mosquitoes couldn’t get through my matted hair to infect
me which was actually was a good thing.
Although
when I arrived at CAAWS, I had to be shaved down because
I was so badly matted. I am good with other dogs, but am
nervous around small children. Do you live far away
from the Mississippi River and need an addition to your
family? I’m your guy. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How big will the puppy be when it grows up?
A: A puppy generally reaches half its ideal adult weight
at 4 months of age. Based on our experience, the CAAWS Counselors
will have an educated guess on the final size of most puppies
up for adoption. Most puppies we see end up weighing 35
to 55 pounds.
Q: Should my dog stay outside?
A: We recommend that a dog be housed inside if at all possible.
A dog wishes to be maintained as part of the family unit,
therefore it enjoys sleeping in the house. A dog does require
at least 1-2 hours of play time outside each day.
Q: How should I potty train my dog?
A: We recommend crate training.
Top
|
Q: Will I know if the dog I adopt has heartworms?
A: We will disclose all medical information we have on the
adopted dog that we have. We will also provide general information
on the treatment of heartworms if the dog you wish to adopt
is heartworm positive.
Q: Why does my dog dig?
A: Chances are your dog is bored. Give your dog plenty of
supervised play time to work off his energy without getting
into trouble. If the dog can not be supervised, we recommend
crate training the dog.
Q: How important is breed?
A: Most all dog breeds are good family pets that love children.
Mixed breeds, such as most of our adoptees, have no in-bred
characteristics, but display their nature readily. If you
are looking for a pure bred dog, you should learn the behavioral
traits of the breed. |
